I don't get it, Pokemon is geared towards young kids, but the rules are so convulted and one has to study each card hundred times in order to get the rule right. Its very far fetched and not balanced at all. I honestly don't believe young kids know how to play with it. For them its just about trading some pretty cards among eachother. But playability? I strongly doubt it.
I personally have been playing Magic the Gathering for 15+ years, and while Magic is geared towards older kids and adults, the rules are so much simpler and less convulted. I mean why do they make it so difficult, with all these crazy rules. Its not playable... come on, Pokemon is for kids. Why make it so complicated?
Give me Magic the Gathering instead, its balanced (in most cases) and makes just more sense with 'normal' rules and sensible powers.
My daughter knows how to play Magic (roughly), she is five! Why? Because it makes sense. Has straightforward rules and no over-the-top crazy powerups and this and thats. Now she saw Pokemon at school and she want to it too. I bought it for her, but basically let her make her own rules, as Pokemon rules/powers and what not, are just too crazy/nonsense.
I would advise any parent to get Magic the Gathering instead as its so much easier and more fun, its it just makes more sense = playable. Of course kids have their peer pressure to get Pokemon... that's a pity though.
